Mata Hari (1876-1917) was a Dutch exotic dancer, executed for being convicted as a spy. Hari lived a lavish childhood, as her father made successful investments in oil. She studied to become a kindergarten teacher after her family fell apart due to her parents’ divorce. However, her godfather took her away from that after learning of the headmaster flirting with her. She married and moved to Paris, where she danced with the circus and posed for artists. She was accused of being a German spy and was executed for it. There was little to no proof backing up the accusations against her, and no one claimed her corpse after her execution.
